Lucas Oil Off-Road Series Rounds 7 & 8 – Salt Lake City
The 4Wheel Parts Motorsports team was excited to hit the track at the Miller Motorsports Park just outside of Salt Lake City. Everyone on the team was impressed by the beautiful facility and professional race paddock area. The team knew there was a disadvantage going into this event because Greg was going to miss half of the practice time in order to catch a flight back home to attend his Dad’s 70th Birthday bash. Qualifying on Saturday was extremely close between all 15 Pro-2 trucks and the 4Wheel Parts team found itself a disappointing 10th (7/10th of a second from the top spots).
Greg said:
“It hurt us a bit missing some time to learn this brand new track. The track layout here is technical with some big whooped sections, challenging table top jumps and a fast mogul section. We didn’t qualify where we wanted to, but we will be ready to race our way to the front.”
Saturday’s Race – Round 7
The 4Wheel Parts truck started on row 5 of this highly competitive field of drivers. When the green flag dropped Greg got held up by a truck in front of him and fell back a few spots. “The starts can be a matter of luck and if someone makes a mistake in front of you it’s easy to get hung out”. By the halfway point Greg was in 9th place. At the restart the 4Wheel Parts truck battled its way towards the front. “Every pass can be a challenge on a tight track like this and nobody waves you by! It’s a dog fight for every spot!” With the laps closing down Greg moved thru the field and fought to a solid 5th place finish. “The team deserved a solid finish and the truck for once has every piece of body work still intact! The guys can relax tonight and get us ready for Sunday’s event.”
Sunday Qualifying & Race – Round 8
The goal in qualifying is to be in the top 5-6 in qualifying and have a shot with the inversion to start up front and out of the mayhem that happens in the mid-pack. During the 5minute qualifying session Greg held fast lap until late in the session when he caught up to a slower truck. It worked to the team’s advantage as the 6th fastest time got the inversion to the pole position. Greg’s plan was to get a good jump on the green flag and not make any mistakes on the typically muddy first few laps. The plan worked for the start but the 4Wheel Parts truck got hit and turned sideways losing several spots. A few laps later more contact sent Greg spinning. A frustrated driver was sitting mid-pack at the halfway caution flag. Seizing the opportunity to move up Greg charged hard in to the first turn and caught a rut which sent the #10 truck on its roof. Fortunately there was only body damage and he was able to continue on. Another caution flag for Robby Pierce, owner of Mastercraft Safety products and fellow Pro-2 driver allowed Greg to catch up for a final green, white, checkered finish. The usual heavy contact (demolition derby) took place in the mid-pack and Greg was able to pick some clean lines thru the mayhem. When the checker flag flew Greg wound up in 5th place.
Two completely different races yielded similar results for the 4 Wheel Parts team. Everyone was excited by the late race moves and 2 more top 5 finishes for the weekend. The team still has plenty to prove and will be working hard as they prepare for the only race in So Cal this year, August 7-8th and Glen Helen Speedway in San Bernardino, CA.

It’s fun to watch and study the makeup on the vehicles winner or not it still takes skills and setup to try and make it in these races. That’s what I look at in these races. Sometimes the crowd is even more fun to watch makes for good poems or stories real or fictional.
