I’ve been on many memorable adventures in my Subaru, but one of the most memorable has to have been our trip to Hungry Valley OHV in Gorman, CA. Hungry Valley OHV is the site of the Gorman Ridge Rally put on in August every year by the California Rally Series.

Hungry Valley OHV

Being enthusiastic Subaru owners with more heart than brains, we decided to head up there in our street cars and give it a go. Now, Hungry Valley’s roads for the most part are rougher than anything you’d really want to tackle with your street car, especially Power Line Rd., but we did it anyway. My car was 100% stock at this point and I was still relatively new to the world of off-road, but I tackled the trails with the guts and gusto of a seasoned pro (well, for the most part)!

I must have jumped my car at least 10 times in this loop that we ran several times and got more air than anyone. The car handled it great and the landings were nice and smooth. Power Line Road was a thrilling and scary place all at the same time. It features a series of sharp lefts and rights, not to mention the exposures that intimidated even the bravest into reigning themselves in.

Hungry Valley OHV

For most involved it was a fun and damage-free weekend (depending on your definition of damage). One guy got taken out by an F150 that lost control and fishtailed into him, while another guy decided to hip check a tree with his quarter panel (cosmetic damage only) and a few guys ended up with de-beaded tires. Other than that, everyone had a great time and walked away with an experience and an addiction that is still talked about to this day.

If you’ve never ventured out to Hungry Valley OHV, you should! Just make sure you are careful out there since there are lots of dirt bike and ATV riders, and bad things can happen if caution is not taken.
