Cummins Rocky Mountain Truck Fest and 4 Wheel Parts Rock Crawl
On August 8, 2010 the gates opened for a day of drag racing and rock crawling in Morrison, Colorado. With the day’s high temperatures forecasted to reach mid 90s and a chance of a late showers, it was expected to be a great day. As the crowds filed in and the racers went through tech inspections, the 4 Wheel Parts crew and I were getting the sales booth and rock crawl all ready for the day’s events. Today was going to be a busy but good day for us.
I had the 4 Wheel Parts crew meet me at the vendor gate at 7am on Sunday. For some of the crew, they had a long drive to get there on time; Donavan and Chris from the Colorado Springs store had to leave their houses around 5am. I was there at 6:00am to get some of the final touches on the rock crawl area and set up our booth.
By 11:30am, we had the rock crawl underway running 1 person in the class 1 stock modified. Jed Nolting was unable to finish the course but he gave it one heck of a good try. In the 2nd class, we had the largest number of participants and Clint Neagel made it through the course in the fastest time. We had some good looking rigs show up in this class, such as Dan Koldenhoven with his 1997 Toyota 4Runner that was built with Dana 60 and GM 14 bolts. Dan broke a front outer 35 spline shaft at a little past the halfway point. After we ran these classes, it was time for the unlimited class to run.
The competitors in the unlimited class wanted the course to get some modifications done to make it a bit harder, so we had another drivers’ meeting and got the drivers to tell us where they thought the course should be changed. After about an hour of moving rocks around and making the course more difficult, we got the unlimited class underway and let me tell you – it was a good show. There was not one rig that made it through the whole course. Joey Archuleta gave the course hell and gave the crowd the show they were looking for. He was in his new Campbell buggy and he had that buggy smoking tires and jumping rocks. It was the show of the day.
Up top on the track there was some good looking trucks to watch as they raced down the ¼ mile. There were also lots of informational booths. I saw Edge Products with their Chevrolet 2500 HD. We had lots of products for sale in our own booth including parts from MBRP, Edge, Gale Banks, AEM, aFe, and K&N plus some awesome-looking rides. I would have to say it was a busy day but we all had fun. Putting on shows is what I like to do and look for me to put on some more.
