Fred Sorensson

My name is Fred Sorensson, Assistant Manager for the Van Nuys 4 Wheel Parts store. I've been with 4 Wheel Parts for 4 years now. I started with the Thousand Oaks store as a salesman, then transferred to the Van Nuys store and was promoted to Asst. Manager.

At the Thousand Oaks store I organized trail runs with customers, which evolved into the So Cal customer appreciation annual run featured in Off-Road Adventures. I have been off-roading for the last 11 years, frequenting most all of the So Cal trails and areas from Last Chance canyon to Anzo-Borrego desert, and from Oceana Dunes to the historic Mojave road trail. The best part is exploring the deserts and seeing the history of the areas, such as old mining towns lost to time and Native-American petro glyphs dotting the hillsides and canyons. By far the thrill of getting away from the cities and into the unknown desert keeps me going and dreaming up the next trip.

Working with 4 Wheel Parts has given me the opportunity to meet fellow Jeepers, offer advice and expertise about Jeeps, and see customers' rides evolve as my own Jeep did. I'm known as the Jeep expert at the Van Nuys store and, although I don't claim to be an expert, my knowledge is extensive. From suspension lifts to gearing and dabbling in other modifications, I can say "I've been there, done that." I started off-roading with my 1972 International Harvester Scout II. After a couple of years, I parked the Scout (after numerous drivability issues) and bought my current ride: a 1995 Jeep Wrangler.

Suspension Upgrades

Pro Comp Alloy Wheels 1079

After many wheeling trips, including the Mojave Road and Last Chance, the springs on my 1995 Jeep Wrangler YJ were getting tired. I replaced the rear springs with Pro Comp Cherokee leafs and they rode great.

Upgrades to My Jeep

freds-blog-profile-003-250x187

I own, drive, and wheel a 1995 Jeep Wrangler YJ. I bought it used in 2001 off a used Jeep dealer. It was stock with no modifications at all and 79,000 miles on the odometer – not many miles for the venerable 4.0L motor. Backing that straight six is the Chrysler 32RH 3-speed auto transmission, followed by the NP231 transfer case. The axles were the Dana 30 and 35s geared with 3.07s. The interior was original, as was the black soft top. The bright red with a splashy vinyl graphic down both sides matched the color of the fender flares.
